Reading funding and open interest together
Use funding and open interest as a paired signal to separate healthy trend expansion from crowded leverage.
Funding tells you who is paying to stay in the trade, while open interest tells you how much exposure is building underneath price.
Rising price with flat funding and moderate open interest is usually healthier than a similar move fueled by extreme long-side funding.
When open interest rises but price stalls, the market is often entering a leverage-heavy pocket that can unwind quickly on headline shocks.
